My monthly project theme for June is shallow depth of field, which means a very narrow point of focus. When you want that blurry background, a small f-stop (eg., f2.8) is what you want (also called “shooting wide open”). I have a new macro lens which is ideal for this sort of topic. See for yourself. You can see, especially with the beetle, what’s in focus. It’s about 5 cm. It was nearly impossible to get that exact spot in focus. This was a handheld shot, and breath held! <\/p>\n
